Why are Republican politicians so afraid to oppose Trump?

No ‘I stand for my constituents’, or ‘I will vote as my conscience dictates’.

So they cozy up to the powerful and parrot what they are told in the hopes of ‘good dog’ treats.

Opposing Trump will get them ostracized from the GOP… they’ll never get voted in as a Red Team member again, but it won’t get them elected for the Blue team, as they are NOT Democrats.

Yet despite the failure of the GOP to censure the breaking of the US Constitution by Trump et al, despite the tight control of Reps and Senate, sometimes a person cannot, in all good conscience, endure the lies and the corruption… Cheney, Kinzinger etc. do have their own brains, their own morality.

It seems that the bar is set too low nowadays for standing as a Representative or Senator for the Republicans. You just have to kiss the pinky ring of the ‘leader’ of the party.

No, they all speak or vote as the top republican or GOP edict says to vote or speak… no agreeing with any Democrat, no allowing any lassitude in freedom of speech… either you are a loyal lap-dog to the party line, or you are anathema… you’re dead to me!

Unfortunately the majority of Republican politicians are not politicians… they are on the gravy train for the money, and leave the politics to the major players… some of them couldn’t be a real politician if it were to save their life, they certainly don’t know enough real knowledge to win any arguments in the house… e.g. MTG, Boebart, Scott… the moment they size up to someone with a brain and knowledge of the law, they are toast.

They are not just opposing Trump, they are opposing the machine, designed by Reagan and perpetuated since by the Bush’s and Trump - this machine does not do proper politics any more, it just has one rationale… Oppose everything that the Democrats stand for and ignore what the people want as ‘trickle-down economics’ works.

This is the Rock and a Hard Place scenario that nobody wants to find themselves in. Their only option is to end up as a talking head on TV, often being shouted down by volunteer opponents who have signed up for Trump/GOP party lines.

I caught my husband of 20 years looking at inappropriate pics of women on TikTok or Instagram. I'm not sure., but when I told him he got mad and made excuses of why they popped up. I then told him how I've snuck on his phone and saw what he's been looking at . We had a horrible big fight. I asked him why did he even marry me when I see the type he likes . Nothing like me, I'm petite, blonde and blue eyes. These women are dark haired dark eyed and have curvy bodies, large breasts, etc. I just don't feel the same about him after this. I can't get over this

So, any Republican with a conscience and some grip on reality, who actually thought for themselves and voted/spoke contrary to party lines, will find themselves cut off at the knees and hanging from a short rope, politically speaking.

Gingrich and McConnell have been spouting that edict for decades.
